Alfred Sole was born on July 2, 1943, in Paterson, NJ. He grew up avidly watching the movies of Alfred Hitchcock, who later was an acknowledged influence on Sole's best known and most well-regarded feature, Alice, Sweet Alice (1976), better known as "Alice, Sweet Alice."
Sole graduated from the University of Florence in Italy with a degree in architecture and spent his young adulthood working as an architect. He made his directorial debut with the tongue-in-cheek hardcore parody Deep Sleep (1972), which starred 1970s porno superstars Harry Reems and Georgina Spelvin. It won first prize at the New York Erotic Film Festival and was made in Sole's hometown of Paterson on a paltry $25,000 budget. Alas, the movie was pulled from theaters on charges that it was obscene, and all prints were confiscated.
Sole's superbly atmospheric and vehemently anti-Catholic horror winner "Alice, Sweet Alice" fared much better with critics and audiences alike. It won first prize at the Chicago Film Festival and garnered highly positive reviews from critics, among them Roger Ebert. The film also boasted a then-unknown Brooke Shields in her film debut and was also shot on location in Paterson. Alas, it, too, did poorly at the box office due to spotty distribution.
Sole next made the quirky and kinky soft-core fantasy outing Tanya's Island (1980), which starred future Prince protégé Vanity acting under the pseudonym D.D. Winters and showcased a remarkably convincing ape costume designed by Rob Bottin. Unfortunately, this film likewise suffered from virtually nonexistent theatrical distribution. Sole's final film as director was the silly slasher-movie spoof Pandemonium (1982), which offered an amazing all-star cast that included Tom Smothers, Phil Hartman, Tab Hunter, Eileen Brennan, Carol Kane, Eve Arden, Judge Reinhold, Kaye Ballard, Paul Reubens, and David L. Lander all doing their best with a dopey script. Sole also wrote stories for episodes of the TV shows Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1985), Friday the 13th: The Series (1987), and Hotel (1983).
Fed up with studio politics and the Hollywood rat race, Sole called it a day as a director in 1982 and went on to become a successful production designer. Among the movies he has worked on in this capacity are Halloweentown High (2004), These Old Broads (2001), Clubland (1999), Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999), Glory Daze (1995), Bodily Harm (1995), and Night of the Running Man (1995). Writer/director/producer Don Schain made his feature debut with the softcore outing The Love Object (1970). A former Manhattan movie theater manager, Schain and his partner Ralph T. Desiderio conceived the idea for the notoriously trashy "Ginger" exploitation picture trilogy in 1970. Schain wrote and directed all three of these immensely popular cult films: Ginger (1971), The Abductors (1972) and Girls Are for Loving (1973). The "Ginger" flicks starred brassy blonde Cheri Caffaro as a sexy yet tough female James Bond-style crimefighter who used harsh and aggressive methods to nail the villains. Don subsequently directed Caffaro in the equally sleazy drive-in items A Place Called Today (1972) and Too Hot to Handle (1977). Schain and Caffaro were married for a while, but eventually divorced. Don subsequently remarried. Schain produced a large volume of successful made-for-TV films; he did most of said television movies for the Disney Channel. Don frequently collaborated with director Blair Treu. He was the president of the Motion Picture Association of Utah and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. Schain died at age 74 on December 26, 2015.- Actor

Don Turner was born on 8 August 1910 in Deland, Illinois, USA. He was an actor, known for Smashing the Money Ring (1939), Virginia City (1940) and Bullet Scars (1942). He died on 15 June 1982 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, USA.- Francis L. Urry was a Utah-based actor. His career in speech and drama began in 1937 as a private teacher, and then he worked at radio station KSL in Salt Lake City for many years. As his career progressed, he performed on network radio and television, and appeared in live theater productions. Urry chose to remain in Utah rather than seeking a more visible career in Los Angeles or New York for that is where he wished to raise his family. This led to his appearance in several films produced by Brigham Young University for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In these films he commonly was one of the few professional actors in the cast, often playing "fatherly" roles. He is probably best known today for his role as a trader running a small store on a small Polynesian island during the 19th Century in the inspirational short film Johnny Lingo (1969). Although this film did not deal with religious subjects and was widely shown in public schools, Catholic schools, and even within corporations, it became principally viewed by multiple generations of Mormon high school students in religious "Seminary" classes and has become part of Latter Day Saint culture. Urry's most notable film performance was in the central role of Windows of Heaven (1963) where he portrayed the aged, 85 year old president of the Mormon Church Lorenzo Snow. His performance was made more remarkable by the fact that he realistically played a figure about 30 years older than himself. Urry also worked as a narrator for some programs with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and appeared in independent feature films such as The Hideout (1977) .

Ace cinematographer William Cronjager was born on March 28, 1930 in Queens, New York. Cronjager stems from a long and illustrious line of extraordinary technical experts in Hollywood: his father Henry Cronjager, uncle Edward Cronjager, grandfather Henry Cronjager, and great uncle Jules Cronjager were all first-rate cinematographers whose collective body of work dates back to the silent movie days in the early 20th century. William was a second assistant cameraman on "South Pacific" and an assistant cameraman on "The Hustler." Cronjager made his major mark on television and racked up a substantial amount of credits shooting episodes of such TV shows as "Alias Smith and Jones," "Baretta," "Columbo," "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Hill Street Blues" (for which he won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography in a Series for his exemplary work on the pilot "Hill Street Station" and shot 27 episodes altogether of this groundbreaking television program), "Partners in Crme," and "Miami Vice." In addition to his extensive list of episodic television credits, William also shot a few theatrical features and a slew of made-for-TV pictures. His last credit was the TV movie "Broken Angel" in 1988. He died at age 65 on May 25, 1995 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.- She was born in Murray, Utah on April 26, 1910 to Ada M. and Thomas Coppin. After graduating from L.D.S. High School in Salt Lake City, she moved to Los Angeles where she attended the University of California at Los Angeles and earned both her B.A. and M.A. degrees with honors and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
While enrolled in UCLA, she performed in several Shakespearean productions at the Pasadena Playhouse and began a highly successful career in radio drama. In 1936 she moved to New York City to continue her work in radio. She obtained her first role on Broadway in 1937. She married Byron McGrath, a well-established New York actor, on October 7, 1939. By the time the McGraths left New York City in 1951, Grace had performed in more than 30 Broadway productions, eight motion pictures, and dozens of radio soap operas. Among the notable theatrical people with whom she worked were Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, Margaret Webster, Judith Anderson, Maurice Evans, Orson Welles, and Montgomery Cliff.
For three years in the early 1950s, the McGraths conducted a small business in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where Grace helped many of her neighbors learn to speak English.
Accompanied by her husband and their son, Grace returned to Salt Lake City in the mid-1950s to care for her aged and infirm mother. For a brief time, the McGraths operated a restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City which quickly became a friendly haven for students, police officers, lawyers, bankers, and others. During the ensuing three decades, she performed in several University of Utah Theatre productions. Briefly in 1961-62, she served as promotional director for the University of Utah Theatre and organized the still flourishing University Theatre Guild.
Throughout the years of her adult residence in Utah, Grace McGrath was continually involved, most often anonymously, in helping and encouraging disadvantaged children and young people and in bringing sustenance and good cheer to older people in nursing homes.
